Plumerias

Plumerias are tropical flowering Trees, belongs to apocynaceaie
family, 2 main groups
1) Obtuse group :- Trees with deep green, deep veinated,elongated, leathery leafs,
Thick bark, Slow growing, ever green trees, produce white fragrant flowers with
yellow centre. Petals are usually five in numbers (accept in hexaid- 6 petals )
Varaieties – Dwarf, variegated etc. Pure white flowers are seen in Plumeria
trabeculata- Uses –Ideal variety for landscaping (less leaf drop and good
architecture look ), perfume industry, Aroma therapy, medicinal use.
2) Frangipaui:–Usually deciduous trees, shades of pink, fast growing, flowering
profusely, colour shades, cream –yellow, deep yellow, sandal, different shades of
pink, Red, blood red, Blackish red, rainbow colours, New shade are Black, Green,
Blue and violet. Dwarf and variegated varieties are also available.
Pollination by moths, No nectar, No Bee pollination, artificial pollination
difficult but can be done by mixing pollen with water and syringe the mixer to
the mother plant flower plumeria have a milk like sap. Cutting are taken for
rooting and pruning during day time up 3 pm, so sap get dried at cut ends.
Cultural Characteristic: – sun loving trees with good water Drainage soil prefer
Propagation:- Grafting on seedlings, stem cutting, layering, seeds (variable)
Fertilizer:- High phosphate fertilizers are used, Nitrogen less + Micro Nutrients,
Cow dung not used (root rot), for flower induction ethyral 1 ml. Per 1 ltr. Water
